Meringues In The Marquee

This week, tv's gone a bit Masterchef-In-A-Marquee.

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2012-01-10/the-great-british-bake-off-does-sport-relief

With celebs doing some baking. For charity. Proper made-from-scratch-meringue catastrophes, some of them decorated with greenery, which just looks wrong. Tonight's show was on in the background, and my main impression was that the judges Weren't Much Fun. On account of being A Bit Picky. And no one burnt the marquee down. Still, there's always tomorrow.

However I shall be paying Proper Attention on Thursday, as one of the contestants is Pearl Lowe. Lovely wife of Lovely Danny Goffey, as well as designer, writer, designer, writer, welly-wearer, mother.... formerly of Primrose Hill, and the tabloids. But I'm always going to love Lodger, the late 90's band where her vocals combined with those of Neil Carlill of Delicatessen were compared with Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood, no less. And they made some crazy videos...

He was such cute 90's eye candy...

As for the Bake Off - me separating egg whites and beating meringues? Sod that, I'm a shop-bought girl.

I love Pearl Lowe. AND BAKING.

I don't see what either have to do with sport, but I'm quite happy to watch!

To be honest, I hardly noticed it was SPORT relief.... I just had to re-check my links to make sure they weren't showing test cricket or something;) Anyhow, quite inspiring set of programmes - have been out for new cake tins today!

I've also been playing some old Lodger cds, and am now in lurve with Neil Carlill's voice (ex Delicatessen) x

Hahaha,I agree, sod making bloody meringue from scratch!!Why would you?! I hear it's bloody traumatising!!
That Peral Lowe is rather gorgeous;I haven't heard of Lodger, clearly I've missed out!
O,O do hope I didn't let you down re my outfit for the burlesque show!I wanted to wear a much more circusy frock, but I couldn't find the damn thing!ARGH!Was most vexed.
I was surprised, though,at how underdressed the audience was!Disapointed, even.I reckon it was worth frocking up for!
Thank you so much for your fab comments lately! You can come by anytime!

EEEEEEEEEEEK! Siouxsie and the Banshees are the one band I would travel for now.My faves,OMG I am sooo jealous!
Bummer your Simple Minds experience wasn't good.I hate it when it takes ages for a band to come on,especially on a school night!XXX

Not keen on baking programmes (reminds me of my dim and distant career and all the stress it caused) but I adore Pearl Lowe. Have you read her autobiography? So refreshingly honest.
She bought a dress from me on eBay a couple of years ago, I kept her address like a proper stalker! x
