On last night's local news they said the Queen would be visiting Nottingham this morning.... I asked the 13 year-old if he wanted me to spring him out of school for the day so we could go and watch her *doing some waving* on the town hall balcony, and, like, see her in the flesh. He didn't. It felt odd to imagine myself going, sans children, so I didn't either.
And, on the subject of the recent Jubilee, ignoring the Gary Barlow-Paul McCartney fiasco, this is what we did. Yes, we had some cakes! And I *might have watched the odd bit of tv coverage too*.....
Note, they are NOT cup-cakes!
And I am going to frame this fabulous retro, jubilee-edition cereal packaging.
Because I LOVES the typography and colours.
And the boys both think it's an excellent idea too.... win-win :)

That Frosties packaging takes me right back, it would look brilliant framed, what a great idea.
I don't think I'd bother seeing the Queen either...off with my head! xxx
Thanks Vix - in fact I'm going to add "get a frame" to my list when I nip into town later today. It's going on the wall where the Warhol Women are, so will put a pic on here soon...
In my toleration of the monarcy, I've come a very long way from when my friend and I flatly refused to stand up for Princess Margaret at the ballet when I was 16! I really wish the royals today had been frozen in time so they were exactly like they were in the 50s though... more elegant, refined and respected, and nicer to have around;) Though that would mean Charles in short trousers, and no Beatrice in wacky hats!!! xx
You are so right about that Frosties box Ms Sparkle. It'll look brill in a frame.
No Frosties for me as a kid, we were never allowed the fancy cereals - wheetbix and cornflakes for us I'm afraid. It would've been a dream come true to wake up to a bowl of Frosties or Fruit Loops. Now that I'm all growed-up as must buy myself a box...

aahh Wilbur is adorable and so much fun i bet. That forsties packet is great. Its rather sad when your children don't want to do things with you anymore. Mine are 12 and 15 now and both boys i did manage to drag them to a fair on the jubilee weekend with a full on picnic ;-) But i think that will be the last time. I suppose we have to let them grow ;-) dee x
Frosties, my brother used to have a tablespoon of sugar on his - can you imagine?! I much prefer the retro packaging, clearer, stylish and striking.
A similar thing happened here when the Olympic torch came through town, nobody wanted to go, and I didn't want to stand there alone. Moments in history, rubbished and poo-poohed by our families!
There is a photo of me as a baby, wrapped in a Union Jack flag, having been taken to see the Queen! Must be 1964 or 1965. My kids wouldn't be bothered either, but then neither am I.
Frosties? That packet takes me back, we had them sometimes as a treat. Grrrreat! xxx
ooh well I'll have to look out for the frosties reprint packaging!
Excellent choice by your 13 year old, it's not easy to forego a day off school, so I admire his decision even more.
I'm also loving the retro Kellogg's boxes, although as a devout anti-royalist I am sadly disappointed by the grovelly "Ma'am-ite" labels. "Smarm-ite", as I now think of it.
xxxx
Love the background of your blog, it's so fancy and pretty at the same time. Gorgeous cakes! They're looking as if they had been super-sweet. Hugs from Miss Maple
Not having those Frosties over here I would be interested to see what the regular packaging looks like... any chance of a side by side? I LOOOVE the idea of framing it! And those cakes look awful and not delicious AT ALL.

Kylie, it seems soooo wrong that you couldn't have these fantastic tooth-rotters as a child; the 13 year old had some yesterday, because the (healthier) one he usually has had run out... had to almost twist his arm;) xx
Hi Delia - thanks, and how on earth did you manage to get them to the fair and picnic; well done! xx
Luce, I've just remembered how I refused to watch the Charles'n'Di wedding as it was "irrelevant" - sunbathed instead... maybe he'll "get it" when he's as ancient as me?;) xx
Curtise, of course you've now GOT to post that photo;) xx
Clare, I think all us bloggers should buy that version, lol - wonder if they are still on the shelves this week? The only other "special" ones I noticed were souped up union jack ones; wonder if any others did a retro version... xx
Custardino - "smarm-ite"! Love that! xx
Hi Miss Maple - ooh thanks; it sort of "happened" while I was fiddling around on blogger, watching Hideous Kinky at the time! xx
Sarah - I *need* a Proper 21st century phone With A Camera And Everything; haven't plucked up the courage to whip out the less-subtle camera in the supermarket yet;) Will see what I can google.... And its outrageous if Mr Kipling is not amply available in Australia; would they survive airmail???;) xx
Sarah - whoops - forgot about gluten-free. Show awesome sister-in-law the picture and request copies! xx
I miss French Fancies so much, wish they sold them here in Australia, they look FAB in those colours! The British are so clever at design!
I might have to consider starting an export business; getting sugary treats like the fancies and frosties out to Australia!!! xx
