Prevailing Twitter Thinking, apart from A National Outbreak Of Blubbing (and a few disagreements over The Song Whose Royalties Will Now Get Morrissey Out Of A Fix) seems to be that the film Seven has been a subliminal influence - the boy could possibly be giving his parents a box containing his sister's head. As a thoughtful Christmas gift...
And I'm just trying to figure out what exactly it could be that John Lewis sell that would be big enough to require a box yet be pocket-money price.

Dear Colonial Curtain-Creater Side-Eye Collector....
soz, link now put on. gnash teeth at misuse of song... x
SCISI - hello, thanks for your comment. Clever, expensive, marketing - and now I love twitter even more.
I love the ad, and also think people being all 'there's a head in the box' is bah-humbugging of the highest order.
I like to think it's a very small thing wrapped in lots of paper in a very big box!
I'm with Lisa-Marie, I love the ad. It's a perfect world image in a not so perfect world. One can dream :-)

Hi Dianne - thanks for following :)
Mumsnet has a whole thread on this ad - apparently there are loads of horror film references in there, not just Se7en!
His parents don't seem very interested in him, so I guess it's feasible he could have made an unaccompanied visit to John Lewis to procure their present...
Haven't seen it. But it's an ad. So I don't love it. How can people love an ad? It's like falling for a roguish pick-pocket.
Apparently mine is one of 190 blogs which mention this ad. I don't have time in my life to seek out or even read the other 189. But nice to make the statistics, even so...
but it's not even december.....!!
OK I'm havin' some Trashasparkelette withdrawal..I need a new post!
Awww Kim, we can't have that now, can we! ;)
Life's a bit chaotic at the moment (more than usual!) - having end-of-tether time re schooling/diagnosis stuff, plus some idiot decided its going to be Christmas in 23 days... hope you're grand and well and still moving the chairs around, etc! xx
It was cute the first time but now its gone into overkill. Although i do like the Gordon Ramsey take on it recently :o) Scarlett x
I hit the mute button as soon as it comes on! Haven't seen Gordon's one - only the specsavers/sauna ad. x
