Look what I came home with this week! A lovely 60s powder blue formica folding table. I have been disloyally contemplating changing our a-bit-too-large round table for a while for something a little bit more flexible space-wise.......
.....but.......
....the 2nd pic shows the default setting of Trashsparkle HQ. Yes look away now if you are easily offended by slovenly ways. It is spectacularly horrible in this shot; there's bite cream as I'd just been zapped by something in the garden, a box of granny bandages as I'd strained an elbow lifting the 13 year old's bed to get something underneath it, a wallet to remind me to put money in it for the 12 year old for after half-term, a book called "Icons" I'm thinking of scanning and making into a collage, my parents' wedding photo for a future post, an Australian tea towel and a nursery-rhyme pillow case found last week, an old 70s round sewing basket and 2 old fans found at my mum's the week before, magazines, an Easter Dr Who mug which is cracked and should be a) thrown out or b) used upstairs as a pencil pot, a battery-powered lightbulb(!!) for the cellar, bits of newspaper from a collage I'd done the day before, and some scribblings to do with James Bond posters on ebay.... I need an office!
So. Which table should I keep? Should I take the Minimalist Challenge of the blue one, or stay with this one???
More on the How Good Am I At I.T./DIY: This morning I took the side off the computer tower, cleaned all the dust out, put it back together again. And it still works!

fab table and how brave to tamper with technology !!
Gosh what a great find! I saw a little formica table in a junkyard the other day for £15 and so wanted it but couldn't really justify buying it. Then I couldn't stop thinking aboout it and went back to see if it was still there yesterday but it was gone- boooo!
Lol.. my desk is kinda like that all the time (although tidy'ish today as my OH cleared it all into a drawer yest!)... I say go with the new blue table... it was a good find :)
The new blue table is rather lovely, and you'd get pleasing hints of colour through the chaos, like a sky trying its best to appear from behind the clouds...
My workspace - ha! - is the same I'm afraid. Creative endeavours are on the kitchen table, and my writing is done on my laptop on the sofa. Oh, for a room of one's own...
If it was me i'd go for the blue one - love the paleness of the blue. Plus with having the sides that can extend you have that extra space if and when you need it.
If you can only have one table, I'd go for the powder blue one - cos it's such a lovely uplifting shade and useful shape.
It may encourage you to put the stuff elsewhere. But all I know is that my crap expands to fit whatever horizontal surfaces I've got available!

It's great to meet a fellow domestic slattern, I'm just as bad.
I have that table in red. xxx
Thanks everyone - I knew I'd get some support for my lurve-the-formica campaign. I've got to persuade the kids though - they both hated it on sight. They still weren't convinced when I told them I'd bought it for £20 and the same ones had sold on ebay for £50 - they just said go on, sell it then.
It was a silly price but I walked in the same shop once and a similar (red) one had just been sold, so I sort of had to get it;)
As for the crap-expands-to-fit, yep it does. Life Laundry needed!
go for the blue. definetely.
Yes, the blue one. You won't have as much room to make a mess. It works for me xx
